  • Jingim Por Tlang da i Mebatei L. Khongsit

    Jingim por tlang

Jingkjam te long ba lah palat,

"Jingim Por Tlang" is an original Khasi poem written by @mebatei_l_khongsti 🥶🥶
Khublei Shibun ba phah phi ïa nge ne nge jingthoh biria jong phi 😂😂 Nang sngew bang shuh ba thoh phi da ka ktien Laitlyngkot. 🔥💯

@mebatei_l_khongsti i ong: "Nga thoh ha ka dur ba biria da ka jingshem lajong bad nga ngeit ba baroh baroh hi ngi ïa shem kumne ha ka por tlang, khamtam kito kiba im sha ki shnong ba jur u thah kum sha shnong jong nga."

Translation: "I wrote this poem in a funny way based on my own experience and I know most of us also experience the same things during the winter, especially those of us who stay in places where there is heavy frost like in my village."

During the cold of winter, it is the heat of the Khasi "shawla" that is the best in giving warmth. Just the sight of the red fiery charcoal is enough to make us feel warm and cosy. How we fight for a spot to sit around the "shawla" to feel the heat; even if only the face and hands are warm, one feels alive 😄😂

A bonus is getting to sit and eat around the "shawla" and add to that listening and telling stories of all kinds…❤️ This Khasi way of life is something we remember and know very well. It cannot be replaced by other ways in the world…the smell of winter air, the smell of hot charcoal, the aroma of boiling "tungrymbai" over the "shawla", the delicious smell of pork and mustard leaves boiling in a soup 😋😋😋
    I'm getting hungry again!! 😂😂

The sun is wonderful medicine. When animals sit in the sun to warm themselves and trees and plants thrive in the heat of the sun, will it not be the same for human beings? In those moments in the warmth of the sun we let go of worry, anxiety and despondency, and they seem to escape over three hills and three rivers.

Do you remember our grandparents sunbathing in seasons like these? There is real good in sitting in the arms of the sun. So many stories…then they lay the shylliah on the ground, taking out ka shangkwai (kwai basket), or u thlong dung kwai (traditional pestle and mortar for grinding kwai) or mixing orange with pomelo fruit for a fruit salad in the sun…And then there basking in the sun are Granndma's pickles. The most scrumptious and delicious, because they've been cooking in the sun.

"Ka Syaid Sngi" or sunbathing during the Autumn and Winter is one of the past times that we all love. 🌤️🌤️ It is also reminiscent of younger days of childhood and warm hugs and kisses from our grandparents 🤗🤗☀️☀️
